Dr. David Schejbal is dean of continuing education, outreach and e-learning at University of Wisconsin-Extension. The division works with all 26 campuses in the University of Wisconsin system to increase access to programs, classes and degrees.

Prior to his arrival in  Wisconsin, Dr. Schejbal  spent eight years at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. There he was associate vice chancellor and director of continuing education. His responsibilities included credit and noncredit programs for adult students, guided individual study, conferences and institutes, and oversight of the Robert Allerton Park and conference center .Dr. Schejbal  was also heavily involved with initiatives to make the Urbana campus more environmentally sustainable. To that end, he worked with the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation to raise funds to produce green energy, was a member of the solar decathlon team, co-chaired the campus sustainability committee, and was a member of the environmental council.

Dr. Schejbal’s  academic background is in philosophy, and he received his doctorate from the University of Connecticut. He taught at Northern Illinois University, and Loyola University of Chicago, among others. In 1992 Dr. Schejbal  moved into administration at Northwestern University as director of summer session and special programs and then as associate dean of University College. Dr. Schejbal  planned all aspects of the summer program, including hiring faculty and planning the curriculum, developing intensive courses that enabled students to move through the curriculum more quickly, and building off-campus, faculty-led programs to enable students to gain applied field experiences throughout the United States. He also began summer study abroad programs, which by  the time he left, included  programs  in eight countries and on four continents.

In 2010, Dr. Schejbal  earned the exemplary service award from the four summer session organizations -- the Association of University Summer Sessions (AUSS), the Western Association of Summer Session Administrators (WASSA), the North American Association of Summer Sessions (NAASS), and the North Central Conference on Summer Sessions  (NCCSS)--  the University of Wisconsin-Extension Chancellor’s Award for Excellence; and the University Professional and Continuing Education Association Outstanding Program Award for the Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Management.

He is a member of the executive committee of the Council ofEenvironmental Deans and Directors (CEDD) and serves on the board of the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA).
