About the Position 

The position will provide one-on-one and group consultations with faculty and facilitate or support workshops to assist faculty in but not limited to, syllabus development, aligning learning outcomes with assessments, using third party tools, and incorporating innovative and evidence-based pedagogies. The position is responsible for providing an online faculty training and certification to teach competency-based education (CBE) courses at TBR institutions. The person should apply advanced understanding of the ADDIE model (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation), adult learning theory, and instructional design principles to project related work.

The individual will serve as a project manager in developing a scaling plan for CBE across the TBR system that includes recruitment of faculty, training of instructors in the CBE model and pedagogical approaches, individual campus consultations, and quality assurance reviews of CBE courses in the development phase. The position will engage with subject matter experts and stakeholders in the design of the faculty training and in support of institutionally-led CBE efforts. Furthermore, the position will serve as a liaison and representative to academic departments at TBR institutions, work groups, and committees. As a member of the academic affairs team, the position is also responsible for ensuring faculty utilize course development templates and standards, instructional design methodologies, and best practices to develop high quality, engaging, ADA/508 compliant, fully functional CBE courses.

The primary objective for this position is to establish an on-going sustainable model for teaching faculty how to use a competency based model for instruction. The position will be responsible for identifying and developing additional faculty learning opportunities that complement the System’s strategic plan and goals.

Tennessee Board of Regents office is located in Nashville, Tennessee. While the Office of Academic Affairs maintains a shared workspace, currently the Coordinator’s position’s primary working environment will be remote.  While there are no plans to change this at this time, the employer reserves the right to change this in the future. Travel will be required for meetings at the system office in Nashville, as well as events throughout the state of Tennessee. Travel required to the system office is non-reimbursed.

  • Maintain an online faculty training certification to teach competency-based education (CBE) courses at TBR institutions;
  • Other duties as assigned;

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of ADDIE model (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation), adult learning theory, and instructional design principles to project related work, and approaches to online pedagogy and facilitation;
  • Skill in designing, developing, and evaluating faculty learning programs;
  • Skill in the use and administration of course management systems (e.g., Desire to Learn, Coursera, Canvas, or Moodle);
  • Familiarity in the design, development, assessment, and delivery of CBE content;
  • Complex problem solving skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a customer service orientation;
  • Excellent presentation skills and the ability to facilitate student, faculty, and staff group meetings of all types;
  • Professional written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive collaborative working partnerships;

  • Strong project management skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects both independently and in teams

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or undergraduate degree and 5 years of related competency-based education experience;
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in postsecondary education at an accredited institution;
  • Experience with course development software and learning management systems;
  • Familiarity in CBE design, development, and assessment;
  • Experience in managing projects involving multiple stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate’s degree in Adult Education, Higher Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related field;
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in postsecondary education at an accredited institution;
  • Experience with using CBE design, development, and assessment;
  • Experience with leading faculty educational learning and development
